Lymphedema therapy

Lymphedema usually causes swelling in the arms and legs, but can occur in other parts of the body such as the face, neck, arm, breast, chest wall and sometimes inside of the mouth and/or throat (intra-oral). Although there are many different conditions that could cause Lymphedema, it is most often seen after lymph node surgery, cancer surgery (radiation) to the lymph nodes. The good news is that Lymphedema therapy can help with reducing and managing the swelling. One thing to keep in mind is, at this time, there is no cure for lymphedema and therapy helps you to face the daily challenges associated with lymphedema and to live your best life. Lymphedema therapy has different options for patients that could involve manual lymphatic drainage (light pressure massage of the affected area) exercises, compression bandages or even a pneumatic compression device depending on the patient’s diagnosis.

WHAT CAUSES LYMPHEDEMA?

Causes and risk factors for lymphedema include:

Breast, head and neck, skin, pelvic, or prostate surgery, including the removal of lymph nodes, often followed by radiation or chemotherapy which can cause increased inflammation in the body and a heavier load on the lymphatic system.

Traumatic injuries to the skin including burns, crushing injuries, surgical incisions, and scar tissue can damage or slow the lymph system.

Severe infection, obesity, cardiac problems (especially congestive heart failure), vascular issues, and kidney disease can all cause lymphedema and require help to remove.

LymphaTech

Breast cancer survivors routinely struggle with lymphedema caused by treatments. Up to half of breast cancer patients will develop lymphedema and that’s a large number, 4 million in fact, and that’s just in the US. Using our LymphaTech technology we can catch it early, while it’s still manageable. Preventing chronic lymphedema helps to retain quality of life while reducing physical discomfort and healthcare costs for the patient.

It takes us 60 seconds to detect even small changes in the circumference and volume in the affected areas. Changes are tracked and differences are calculated by percentages. You will know instantly how you have progressed.

Lympha Tech is accurate and fast. You deserve the best technology and we have it here for you.

Occupational Therapy

An Occupational Therapist helps people to improve their daily activities which can include things like eating, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, and grooming. Our goal is to get you back to doing the things you could do before your injury or illness. We understand that each patient is unique and we will develop a program specifically for you and your individual needs.

Parkinson’s Therapy

Functional Transformation provides you with options for Parkinson’s therapy. Our therapists are certified in LSVT BIG and PRW Moves

LSVT BIG is a therapy that includes 16 sessions that will help increase the patient’s mobility and speed. Parkinson’s patients experience a reduction in the size of their movements and an increase in the time it takes them to accomplish tasks, such as putting on a coat. This therapy can help to make their movements more fluid, bigger, and faster giving the patient the confidence he/she needs to get out of the house and enjoy life.

PWR! Moves are designed to help slow, stop, or even reverse symptoms of Parkinson’s. The four basic moves can be done lying, sitting, or standing and can be made progressively more challenging so that the patient continues to see improvement over time.

It’s never too late to start therapy for Parkinson’s, but If you or a loved one have had a Parkinson’s diagnosis, why wait until symptoms have progressed further to seek help? Give us a call today to get started with a proven treatment plan that can change your life for the better.
